After being ranked No. 7 in the NJCAA Division I Softball preseason poll, Butler softball holds tight in the No. 7 slot in the first official poll of the season.
The Grizzlies (3-1 overall) kicked off their season two weeks ago in the San Antonio Tournament where they went 3-1 on the weekend. Butler recorded two wins over Northeast Texas and a 14-3 run-rule win over Hill, Texas. Butler's only loss this season came against No. 13 Trinity Valley.
Butler will head back down to Texas to continue their non-conference schedule as they will partake in the Cowtown Classic in Fort Worth, Texas on Friday and Saturday. The Grizzlies will face three Texas schools - Alvin, Weatherford and North Central Texas on Friday - then wrap up weekend play with Coastal Bend, Texas and Rose State, Okla., on Saturday.
The Grizzlies have now been ranked inside the NJCAA Top 20 for 39 consecutive polls. The last time Butler was outside the Top 20 was April 22, 2015. Since the 2016 season, they have held the No. 1 spot in 12 polls, holding it throughout the entire 2017 season and were ranked in four more polls inside the Top 5.
