Butler improves win streak to 25-games with double header sweep over Seward County

No. 4-ranked Butler Softball (29-2, 16-0) remain undefeated in KJCCC play and keep their winning streak alive now at 25-games with the double header sweep over Seward 10-5 and 11-2.

After scoring a run in each of the first two innings, the Grizzlies fell behind 4-2 after the Saints hit three homeruns in the top of the fourth to take the two-run lead. It was short lived as Butler had an answer with a two-run homerun from Anna Icenhower in the bottom half of the inning and the Grizzlies plated four to regain the lead 6-4.

Seward scored on in the fifth to climb back within one run, but a four run sixth provided enough insurance runs for Butler as Erickson finished them off in the seventh to win the game 10-5.

Izzy Erickson pitched all seven innings allowing five runs off six hits. She had zero walks and struck out four batters. Ari Cordova, Hannah Knox and Anna Icenhower each had a homerun in the contest. Emily Adler was 1-2 with two RBI's and Ari Cordova went 2-4 with two RBI's, two runs scored and a stolen base. Izzy Erickson had four stolen bases and scored two runs.

Game two saw Butler do what they do best and that is get ahead early and finish games quickly. They did just that as they took a quick 6-0 lead after two. They scored runs in the fourth and fifth and would eventually walk it off in the bottom of the sixth off a two-RBI single by Madi Young winning 11-2 in run-rule fashion.

Maddie Redman picked up her 12th win of the season pitching five innings allowing just one run off four hits. She gave up zero walks and struck out seven batters. Shayna Espy finished 3-4 with two RBI's and two runs scored and a stolen base. Hannah Knox got her second homerun of the day and went 2-3 with two RBI's and two runs scored. Madi Young was 2-4 with two RBI's, three runs scored and five stolen bases.

NEXT UP: Butler (29-2, 16-0) will head to Dodge City on Monday, April 12 for a double header with the Conqs starting at 2:00pm.
