Grizzlies open up KJCCC play with sweep at Pratt

The Butler Grizzlies started conference play with a sweep of the Pratt Beavers on Wednesday, as they went on the road and collected two more victories, defeating the Beavers 11-2 and 18-0.

Game One
Emma Koenke's amazing shutout streak finally came to an end in the first game of the doubleheader, but she was yet again sensational as she picked up her sixth win of the season, pitching three innings and giving up just one run on three hits and striking out six. Kendal LeGrand and Kendyl Anderson picked up the rest of the game, combining for two innings of shutout softball.

Ari Cordova hit her second homer in two days as she finished with three RBIs. The Grizzlies scored four runs in the first two innings before promptly opening the floodgates with a six run inning in the fourth. Butler finished with 11 runs on 13 hits, earning three walks and striking out just twice.

Game Two

Butler scored ten runs in the first two innings in the game, and the rest was academic, as the Grizzlies cruised to an 18-0 victory. Butler finished with 18 runs on 16 hits. Twelve different Grizzly batters earned hits, and 11 batters earned RBIs. Ryanna Valdivia and Gentry Shepherd led the way with three, and Shepherd and Kendyl Anderson both hit home runs.

Allyson Montgomery picked up another win, going three innings and giving up no runs on just two hits, striking out seven. Ariel Matula came in to finish the shutout, giving up no runs in two innings of work as the Grizzlies would earn the run rule victory.

Butler improves to 10-0 on the year, and they now start conference play 2-0, as they will return home for the first time in 2022 with two games at East Park against the Hutchinson Blue Dragons on Saturday in El Dorado.
