Softball Sweeps KJCCC Weekly Awards Again, Dickey and Ewing Earn Honors

Butler softball swept the Jayhawk Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week awards for a second time in three weeks to being the season.

Sophomore catcher Cady Dickey was named Player of the Week for a second time this season and freshman pitcher Addy Ewing was Pitcher of the Week.

Dickey helped Butler go 3-1 over the weekend in Lufkin, Texas, with a win over Monroe College and two wins over Angelina College. She finished with 10 hits, nine RBI, five runs scored and two home runs in four games played. In a 17-9 win over Angelina on Friday, Dickey tallied three hits, three RBI and scored two runs. She lifted a three-run home run in the top of the first to put Butler ahead 3-0. She followed up the impressive performance Friday with a monstrous game on Saturday. In a 12-11 loss to Angelina, Dickey totaled five hits, drove in five runs and scored two runs. Her two-run home run in the top of the seventh tied the game at 11-11. For the week she hit .556 in 18 at bats.

Ewing helped Butler win two games on Friday, one over Monroe and one over Angelina. She pitched in relief both games, picking up the win in each to move her record to 3-0 on the young season. She threw the final 4.0 innings in a 12-4 win over Monroe, blanking the Mustangs as she gave up just three hits, striking out four and walking none. In a 17-9 win over Angelina later that afternoon, Ewing tossed 3.2 innings, striking out three and walking one to gain her second win of the day. She holds a 1.54 ERA in 13.2 innings pitched this season.
