Hageman, Handsaker Earn KJCCC Weekly Honors

For a third time this season, Butler softball has swept the KJCCC Player of the Week honors as sophomores Aly Hageman and Cheyenne Handsaker earned honors the league announced Tuesday.

Hageman, a sophomore shortstop, and Handsaker, a sophomore pitcher, join Cady Dickey (twice), Addy Ewing and Chloe Odle as fellow weekly conference players of the week just five weeks in.

Hageman, a Kingman, Kan., native, helped 14th ranked Butler go 4-2 on the week as she started all six games the Grizzlies played. Hageman hit .526, slugged 1.053, held a .591 on-base percentage and led Butler with 10 hits on the week. She helped Butler to a DH split at Crowder with two hits and two runs scored in game two. She also helped Butler split with Barton on Thursday when she tallied three hits, three RBI and two home runs in a win over Barton. Hageman slugged an RBI double off the right field wall in the fifth inning to deliver a 10-2 run rule win over the Cougars.

Handsaker, a Pearl City, Il., native, started three games for the Grizzlies last week, picking up two wins and one loss in the circle and pitching a team-high 16.0 innings for the Grizzlies. She struck out 19 compared to allowing just three walks. Handsaker helped Butler force a DH split with Crowder as she threw 6.0 innings, striking out seven and walking two as Butler won 10-5. She then struck out seven, walking just one in a loss to Barton. Finally, Handsaker threw 3.0 shutout innings allowing a lone hit, striking out five and walking none in a 17-2 win over NWKTC.
