Butler women knock off Pratt for second straight win

The Butler women held on for a 62-56 win over Pratt on Saturday at the Power Plant, giving the Grizzlies their second straight win in Jayhawk Conference play.

Butler jumped ahead 4-0 and quickly built a double-digit lead at 14-4. The lead grew to 12 points at 22-10 when Jamillah Bonner came up with a steal and fed Imari Lyons for a layup with 6:20 left in the first half. The Grizzlies still led by double digits at the half, 30-20.

Pratt began the second half on an 8-0 run, as it took Butler more than five minutes to score coming out of halftime. The Beavers got as close as two points before Kiara O'Neal got a steal and drove the length of the floor for a layup.

Pratt took its first lead with six minutes to go on a long 3-pointer by Ann Pauly. Tysia Maunel would put Butler back in front with a jumper from the baseline. That, followed by a Jamillah Bonner layup a minute later, put Butler back in front, 49-46, with 4:47 to go and the Grizzlies would not trail again.

Bonner had another big night for Butler with a game-high 24 points and seven rebounds, while Mia Wesley had nine points and six rebounds for the Grizzlies. Tysia Maunuel and Samantha Satterlee also had six points apiece. Ann Pauly led Pratt with 16 points.

Butler is now 13-6 on the season, 2-3 in the Jayhawk West Conference while Pratt falls to 11-8 overall and 1-4 in the conference standings.
