Butler falls at home to No. 8-ranked Seward County

An offensive slump late in the second half was what doomed the Butler women in a 76-59 loss at home to No. 8 Seward County.

The Grizzlies battled Seward through the first 10 minutes, trailing just 14-10 midway through the period. The Saints, however, went on a 10-2 run to double up the Grizzlies, 24-12, with five minutes left in the period and would lead 34-21 at the intermission.

Butler never let Seward get too far away in the second half, getting as close as eight points several times, including as late as 1:13 to play. From that point, Seward scored the final nine points of the game to win by 17.

Jamillah Bonner scored 18 points to lead the Grizzlies despite making just five of 16 shot attempts. Kiara O'Neal and Samantha Satterlee had eight points apiece for the Grizzlies. Seward had two players, Anete Kirsteine and Payton Fleming, with 18 points apiece.

Butler falls to 13-8 overall, 2-5 in conference play. The Grizzlies finish the first run through the Jayhawk West with a road trip on Wednesday to Dodge City to play the Conquistadors in the new United Wireless Arena. Seward stays undefeated in conference play at 7-0 and is 18-2 overall.
