Whitehead scores 16 as Butler sweeps season series from Pratt

PRATT, Kan. – The Butler women won their second game in a row while completing a season sweep of Pratt with a 77-67 road win on Wednesday at the Lesh Sports Arena. 

Butler fell behind 3-0 early on but would outscore Pratt 14-2 over the next four minutes to take a nine-point lead with 15:20 to play in the first half, capped by a 3-point basket by Chantee' Louis.

Pratt would then score nine straight of its own to tie the game 14-14. From that point on, the teams traded leads until Pratt went on a 13-0 late in the half that put them ahead 37-27 with 1:26 to go in the period.

Butler would get a traditional three-point play from Tysia Manuel and a 3-point basket from Destiny Whitehead in the closing moments of the first half to get within five at the break, 38-33.

Butler would regain the lead in the second half when Tekoya Thompson converted a three-point play with 10:57 to play, putting the Grizzlies in front, 50-49.

Samantha Satterlee would later key a 7-0 Butler run, scoring six of those points as Butler turned a tie game into a 59-52 advantage with six minutes to play. Butler would build its lead to as many as 13 points following a layup by Tonya Elliott-Salas with 4:30 to play.

The Grizzlies were led by Destiny Whitehead with 16 points, thanks in part to four 3-point baskets. Tysia Manuel had 13 points and Chantee' Louis added 12 for Butler. Jamillah Bonner scored nine points – the first time since the season opener that she was not in double figures for Butler.

Butler improves to 16-11 overall, 5-8 in Jayhawk West Conference play. The Grizzlies look to extend their winning streak when they return home to face Cloud County at the Power Plant on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
