Butler pulls away late in 78-55 win over Allen County

The Butler women surged late to take out Allen County by a 78-55 score on Tuesday night at the Power Plant. The win gives the Grizzlies a perfect 3-0 record to start the season.

 

While Butler won by 17, the Grizzlies did not pull away until late in the contest. Allen County took advantage of its 3-point shooting and Butler fouls to stay in the contest most of the first half, even taking a 23-22 lead late in the period.

Butler was led by Jamillah Bonner, who had her second double-double of the season with a game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds. She was one of four Grizzlies in double figures in the game. Freshmen Ashlee Ivy and Katie Anderson both had their career-highs with 15 and 12 points, respectively. Sophomore Tysia Manuel added 10 points for the Grizzlies.

 

Butler is now 3-0 on the season for only the second time since the 2006-07 season. The Grizzlies were also 3-0 two years ago. Allen County loses for the first time this season and is 2-1.

 

Butler will now prepare for its first road game of the season. The Grizzlies will travel to St. Gregory's (Okla.) on Friday for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
