Women move to 5-0 with rout of Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa

The Butler womens basketball team moved to 5-0 on the season with an 85-31 win over the Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa Mavericks on Tuesday night in Tonkawa, Okla.

Jamillah Bonner scored 24 points, five rebounds and seven steals to lead the Grizzlies, who ended the game with a 41-9 run.

The Mavericks held a 5-4 lead early in the contest, but it would be their only lead of the game. Butler quickly scored eight consecutive points to take a 12-5 and would eventually jump out to an 18-9 lead midway through the first half. Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa cut the deficit to 19-15, but the Grizzlies pulled away with a 21-2 run to end the half. Shayla Williams would hit a three-pointer right before the buzzer to give Butler a 40-17 halftime lead.

Butler would make a 10-0 run midway through the second half to increase the lead to 59-24 with 12:18 left in the game. The Grizzlies would end the game by scoring the final 20 points of the contest.

In addition to Bonner's 24 points, the Grizzlies had three other players score in double figures. Chelsea Hodison had 12 points and seven rebounds, while Katie Anderson finished with 11 points and eight rebounds. Bethany Howard added 10 points.

Butler shot 47 percent (33-of-71) from the field and limited the Mavericks to just 23 percent shooting (14-of-62). Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa shot just 16 percent (6-of-38) in the second half.

Next up for the Grizzlies will be a home contest against Redlands (Okla.) on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 5:30 p.m.
