Butler women fall to Iowa Western

The Butler women's basketball team traveled to Concordia on Saturday to play a game against Iowa Western at the Cloud T-Bird Classic. Last season when Butler and Iowa Western met on the very same floor the Grizzlies pulled out a late come from behind victory. This time around it was Iowa Western who made a late run to defeat the Lady Grizzlies 66-62.

In the first half the Grizzlies were led by Jamillah Bonner. Bonner's 10 points helped Butler take a 31-26 lead into the half over the eighth ranked Reiver's.

Through the first 15 minutes of the second half the Grizzlies were able to keep their lead. It was shortly after the five minute mark when the Reiver's made their move. Once the Grizzlies relinquished the lead they were unable to get it back.

The Grizzlies who shot 27.1 percent for the game matched their 31 points from the first half.  The Reiver's shot 31.7 percent for the game and added 40 points in the half.

Butler had two players in double figures for the game. Bonner finished with 17 points while Katie Anderson had 11. Both teams pulled down more than 50 rebounds in the contest.

The loss puts the Grizzlies at 7-2 on the season. The next game for the Butler women will be Tuesday night against Neosho County Community College with a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
