Butler women move up to No. 7 in NJCAA hoops poll

The Butler women's basketball team is ranked seventh in the latest NJCAA Division I Coaches' Poll released on Feb. 5.

The #7 ranking is the highest the Grizzlies have received since the 2001-2002 season, when Butler opened the season with 20 consecutive victories. For four consecutive weeks (Jan. 9 to Jan. 29, 2002) Butler was ranked fourth in the nation.

Butler (23-1 overall, 6-0 Jayhawk East) has won 21 consecutive games, breaking the program's school record of 20 from the 2002 season. The Grizzlies moved up one spot in the poll after winning at Independence 96-65 and defeating Neosho County 79-47 at home last week.

The Grizzlies are one of four KJCCC teams featured in this week's poll. Jayhawk West teams Hutchinson (21-0) and Seward County (21-2) are ranked third and ninth, respectively. Cowley (17-5), the current Jayhawk East runner-up behind Butler, is ranked 19th.

Due to the recent snow forcing Wednesday's game against Coffeyville to be moved, Butler will be forced to play three games in a five-day span. The Grizzlies will travel to Iola this Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest against Allen County, then return home to face Coffeyville at 5:30 p.m. Monday.  Butler will also play at Cowley on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
