Butler women fall to 3-2 after road trip

The Butler women traveled south for a three-game road trip in four days and finished 1-2 in those games. In Wednesday's game in El Reno, Okla., Butler lost to Redlands 73-70. Then the Grizzlies traveled to Lufkin, Texas for the Angelina College Lady Roadrunner Classic. There, Butler defeated Panola College (Texas) on Friday 78-56 and lost to Angelina College (Texas) 70-60 on Saturday.

On Wednesday against Redlands, Butler took a ten point lead into the half 37-27. The Grizzlies dominated the glass winning the rebounding battle 42-14. But it was Redlands, connecting on 57 percent shooting from long range (12-for-21), who came away with the victory. Sophomore Ashley Gibson finished with 23 points and eight rebounds, while Kynadi Johnson had 20 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore Sarah Parker tallied 12 points in the losing effort for the Grizzlies.

Two days later, Butler battled Panola College and came away victorious 78-56. The Grizzlies took control early building a 43-25 lead at the intermission. Butler outscored Panola 18-8 in the remaining 5:40 of the contest extending the lead to its final tally of 22 points. Sarah Parker had a game high 26 points and six rebounds to lead the charge for the Grizzlies. Kynadi Johnson chipped in 16 points and sophomore Katie Palmer finished with nine points.

On Saturday, the Grizzlies looked to finish off their fifth game in seven days as they took on the host school Angelina College. The Grizzlies fell in the contest 70-60. Katie Palmer finished with a game-high and season-high 20 points, and Sarah Parker added 14 points.

After the road trip, the Grizzlies are now 3-2 on the young season. Butler returns home to play host to Neosho County Community College on Tuesday. Tip Time is 5:30 p.m.
