Butler women cruise to 105-50 home win over Allen

The Butler women's basketball team defeated Allen 105-50 at the Power Plant on Tuesday, using a strong defensive effort and balanced scoring.

The 105 points scored and the 55-point margin of victory were both season-highs for Butler (6-2), who has won three straight games.

Sophomore forward Kynadi Johnson scored a season-high 24 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for the Grizzlies. Ashley Gibson also finished with a double-double (20 points, 11 rebounds), while Millie Shade (18), Sarah Parker (15) and Katie Palmer (14) also scored in double figures.

Butler dominated Allen in nearly every facet of the game. The Grizzlies forced 18 turnovers, which turned into 30 points on the offensive end. On the glass, Butler outrebounded Allen by a 49-14 margin and pulled down 22 offensive rebounds. Butler also held dominance in the lane, outscoring Allen 42-10 in the paint.

The Grizzlies led Allen 48-23 at the halftime break, courtesy of a key 20-0 run over a nine-minute stretch. Leading 21-18 with 10:26 in the opening half, Butler made three consecutive baskets in the paint, then Millie Shade hit a three-pointer from the right wing. Shade would hit another trey to end the run just before Allen hit a basket at the 1:26 mark.

Butler continued to cruise along after the break, as they outscored Allen by 30 points in the second half. A 33-2 Grizzly run over an 8:30 stretch put the game out of reach. Millie Shade scored 10 points during the run, hitting a pair of three-pointers.

Katie Palmer's three-pointer at the top of the key with 3:11 to play put the Grizzlies over the 100-point mark for the first time this season. Palmer's trifecta gave Butler a 102-45 lead over Allen.

Butler will return to action on Saturday when they host Tabor College JV. Tipoff at the Power Plant is at 2 p.m.
