For the second year in a row, the Butler women have ended Colby's season with a win in the first round of the Region VI Tournament as Grizzlies powered their way to a 68-40 win over the Trojans.

With the win, the Grizzlies (24-6) advance to the quarterfinals to take on Independence (19-9) at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at Koch Arena in Wichita. Colby sees its season come to an end at 12-19.

Butler jumped out to an 8-0 lead over Colby on Saturday and pushed the lead to double digits for the first time when Katie Palmer hit a 3-pointer to make it a 19-8 game with 11:54 left in the first half.

After Kynadi Johnson scored on a layup with 2:53 left in the first half, the Butler women led 37-17. Colby, however, would score the final seven points of the half, cutting Butler's lead to 37-24 at the intermission.

Butler started the second half on 9-2 run and once again pushed the lead to 20 points. Colby would never get closer than 15 the rest of the way and Butler finished the game on a 14-1 run.

The Grizzlies made a season-high 11 3-pointers in the game and their 57.9 percent shooting from beyond the arc (11-19) is also a season high. Four of those came from Katie Palmer, who scored a game-high 18 points. Sarah Parker and Jurnee Reid each made three 3-pointers, as Reid scored 12 points and Parker had 11. Ashley Gibson scored 14 points.

The win was No. 150 for Butler head coach Mike Helmer, who is now 150-76 overall in seven seasons. The victory over Colby gives Butler a season sweep of the Trojans, as the Grizzlies won both games during the regular season as well.
