Butler women roll over Bethany JV in season opener

The Butler women opened the 2015-2016 season in dominating fashion on Friday night as they beat the Bethany Swedes junior varsity 94-31.

Butler jumped out to an early lead thanks to several key defensive possessions that led to easy scoring opportunities. Bethany went almost 10 minutes without scoring, getting its first basket with just seven seconds left in the first quarter. By that point, Butler was already in front 27-2. From there, the Grizzlies took the lead 43-15 into halftime.

The second half saw the Grizzlies score 51 points in the third and fourth quarters while holding the visiting Swedes to just 16 points during that same time.

All 13 Grizzly players played and scored in the victory. Leading the way for Butler was Freshmen Kyeria Hannah who finished with a game high 20 points and eight rebounds. Also scoring for the Grizzlies was Cassie Pauls with 11 points, Hayley Leeper nine, Tamara Lee eight, Alecia Gulledge, Raven Prince, Imari Bell each had seven points, Nakylia Carter six, Janee Arnold and Alex Keller five, Ashlyn McBride and Nia Roberts each had four points, and Eledria Franklin tallied one.

The Grizzlies move to 1-0 and play host to No. 13 ranked State Fair Community College on Monday, Nov. 2. Tip time is slated for 6 p.m.
