Butler women score season-high 113 points in win over Labette

The Butler women set a season-high in points Saturday in a 113-33 victory over Labette at the McDonald's Classic.

Butler (9-1) led Labette 56-21 at halftime, then routed the Cardinals by a 57-12 margin in the second half.

Sophomore Tamara Lee provided the offensive output early for Butler, scoring 18 points in the opening quarter. With the game tied 2-2, the Grizzlies went on an 11-0 run which ended with a pair of free throws and a three-pointer from Lee.

Butler added another 12-0 run in the quarter, with Lee hitting a pair of three-pointers. Lee finished the quarter making a perfect 4-of-4 three-pointers and 6-of-7 from the field.

Leading by 35 after one half, Butler kept the offensive attack going with a 23-2 run to begin the third quarter. The Grizzlies then opened the fourth quarter by scoring the first 16 points, hitting the 100-point mark on a made free-throw by Eledria Franklin.

Butler finished with five players scoring in double figures, with Lee leading all scorers with 21 points -going 7-of-9 from the field and 5-of-6 from beyond the three-point line. Nakylia Carter and Alex Keller scored 13 points each. Carter also added five assists and five steals. Alecia Gulledge (12 points, 11 rebounds) and Imari Bell (11 points, 10 rebounds) both had double-doubles in the contest.

The Grizzlies dominated Labette on the boards by a 50-21 margin and scored 26 points off second-chance points. Butler also scored 51 points off of Cardinal turnovers. From the field, Butler made 49 percent (38-of-77) while limiting Labette to just 27 percent (13-of-48).

Since suffering their first loss at State Fair, the Grizzlies have dominated the last three opponents - winning by an average of 53 points and averaging 100 points per game. On the season, Butler has scored 90+ points four times this season. In six of the nine victories, the Grizzlies have scored 85 points or more.
