Blue Devils hand No.6 Grizzlies First Loss and Remain Undefeated

The Kansas City Kansas Community College women's soccer team (10-0-3) took down the Butler Community College Grizzlies (9-1-3), 2-1 Oct. 5 at the BG Products Veterans Sports Complex in El Dorado, Kan. This is the best start of the season for head coach Shawn Uhlenhake since he started nine years ago. Uhlenhake currently holds the school record of 13 wins in a season, which took place in 2019.

The Blue Devils went into halftime trailing the Grizzlies 1-0 with a goal in the 12th minute. In the second half, both Jaycee Schumann and Kiara Carr were able to find the back of the net to give the Blue Devils the lead. Schumann's goal came first in the 61st minute with the ball scrambling in the Grizzly box and Schumann was able to collect it and put it past the Grizzly goalkeeper. Carr scored just two minutes later to take the lead with a shot from outside the box. Cora Ellermann was able to record her ninth assist on the season. Butler is currently still leading the KJCCC with a conference record of 9-1-1 with the Blue Devils right behind them with a conference record of 8-0-3. Each win is three points, a tie is one point and a loss is zero points. With that, the Grizzlies have 28 points to the Blue Devils 27.

The next game for the Blue Devils women's soccer team is against Coffeyville Community College at 5 p.m. Oct. 9 at the KCKCC Soccer field.
