Butler women win three straight road games, improve to 6-1

 


COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – The Butler women's basketball team won three straight road games in three days beginning in Salina and ending in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The results of the contest were three straight wins.

On Thursday, inside the Mabee Arena on Kansas Wesleyan University's campus the Grizzlies started slow going into the halftime intermission tied at 36. The halftime adjustments paid dividends as Butler scored 60 points in the second half on their way a season high in points in a 96-69 win.

Leading Butler was Wichita Freshman Jamillah Bonner who had 25 points and 16 rebounds in the contest. Also scoring for the Grizzlies was Imari Lyons with 17, Samantha Satterlee 10, Destiny Whitehead with nine, April Miller with seven, Takoya Thompson with, Tonya Eliott-Salas, Kiara O'Neal, Christy Couey and Jordyn Tolefree with four apiece, Tysia Manuel with three, Brea Rice two, and Asia Watson finished with one point.

Friday evening in Council Bluffs, the Grizzlies took on Hastings College in Kainesville Arena on Iowa Western Community College's campus and came away victorious 76-48. Butler jumped out to a 45-22 halftime lead on the way to improving to 5-1 on the season.

Leading the way for the Grizzlies was again Jamillah Bonner who finished the contest with a game high 20 points and six rebounds and seven steals. Also marking the book was Samantha Satterlee, Takoya Thompson, and Jordyn Tolefree with eight points each, Imari Lyons finished with seven points, Brea Rice with six, Destiny Whitehead, Mia Wesley and Tysia Manuel had four points apiece, Christy Couey, Asia Watson and Kiara O'Neal each had two points, and Tonya Elliott-Salas tallied one point.

Kainesville Arena was the site for the Grizzlies third and final victory of the weekend as they rolled past Bethel College by a total count of 65-45 on Saturday. The win marked Butler's fourth straight win and sixth of the season.

Jamillah Bonner was the leader again for the Lady Grizzlies while scoring 14 points and snatching five rebounds. Imari Lyons ended the game with 10 points as did Tonya Eliott-Salas. Lyons and Eliott-Salas had seven and six rebounds respectively. Samantha Satterlee had six points, Christy Couey had five, Asia Watson, Mia Wesley and Tysia Manuel each had four points and April Miller, Destiny Whitehead, Brea Rice and Takoya Thompson had two points each.

The Grizzlies return home for the fourth of four games in five days as they play host to Southwestern College (Kan.) inside the Power Plant on Monday. Tip time is slated for 7 p.m. Then Tuesday the Grizzlies return to the road as they travel to Independence Community College looking to avenge Butler's lone loss of the year.
