Volleyball slides up two spots to No. 5 in this week’s National Poll

The Butler volleyball team climbed two spots in this week's Div. I NJCAA Women's Volleyball National Poll checking in at No. 5, their highest ever ranking since playing NJCAA Division I volleyball.

The Grizzlies are one of the best runs in program history as they have won their last 21 matches, all in dominant fashion. They have won 19 of those matches in straight sets and have won 63 of their last 67 sets played.

Lisa Lechtenberg, now in her fourth season as the head coach, has led Butler to a 25-2 overall record and a perfect 9-0 record in conference play up to this point. The Grizzlies are 7-2 against NJCAA top-20 opponents with one of their biggest wins coming against the defending national champions in Iowa Western in a 3-2 victory in the Blue Dragon classic in mid-September.

Butler's only two losses have come to No. 3 Blinn and No. 9 Utah State Eastern in the first two weeks of the season. The last time that Butler suffered a loss, go back to August 27 where they fell to No. 3 Blinn 3-1.

The Grizzlies are winning at an extremely high level and doing it with a ton of local talent. Six of the seven starters (counting the libero) are from Kansas, two of which attended Butler County high schools (Carly Clennan, El Dorado) and (Kayli Duncan, Circle). Both of those players have also been named an NJCAA National Player of the Week this season, the highest weekly award given out by the association.

The Grizzlies will face all Jayhawk opponents from here on out and will look to continue their winning streak as they take to the road Wednesday for a matchup at Pratt at 6:30pm.
