Grizzlies swept by Colby at home

EL DORADO, Kan. – Butler volleyball was unable to get things rolling on Wednesday afternoon as they were swept 3-0 (22-25, 12-25, 23-25) by the Colby Trojans at the Power Plant.

The Grizzlies (13-11, 5-5 KJCCC) dropped their second straight match after falling to Dodge City in five sets at home on Monday. Colby (15-9, 7-5 KJCCC) swept the Grizzlies for the second time this season. The Trojans jumped the Grizzlies in the conference standings following the match as Butler now sits in fifth and Colby in fourth.

Set one saw Butler lead 19-16 late but Colby stormed back to take it 25-22.

Set two was all Trojans as they took it 25-12. The Trojans jumped out to a 9-3 lead before Butler was forced to call a timeout. The Grizzlies then cut it to a four-point deficit at 10-6 but that was the closest they would get before Colby put the pressure on and got a 2- match lead.

Set three was close throughout and even saw Butler get within 23-22 but the Trojans closed it out to complete the sweep.

Maria Eduarta Motta led the Grizzlies with nine kills to go with seven digs. Laynee Brown had a team-high 14 digs while Andrea Grazia Cannavo posted a team-high five blocks. Anja Milosevic added a double-double of 25 assists and 10 digs. The Grizzlies hit just .066 on the match.

Butler returns to action on Monday, Oct. 16 as Cloud County travels to the Power Plant for a 6 p.m. match as the Grizzlies host a 'Purple Out'.
