Volleyball Drops Home Match to Hutchinson, Region VI Tournament Play Begins Wednesday

EL DORADO, Kan. – In the final regular season match for both teams, Hutchinson came away with the win over Butler, 3-2 (22-25, 19-25, 25-19, 25-20, 15-12), at the Power Plant Monday afternoon.

The match had a lot of stakes surrounding it coming in. With a win Butler would have claimed the third seed in the upcoming Region VI playoffs and with a Hutchinson win, the Blue Dragons would pick up the second seed. With the way it went the Grizzlies are the fourth seed and will host fifth seed Garden City in the opening round of the Region VI playoffs on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Hutchinson (24-14, 11-5 KJCCC) won the first two sets before Butler (18-12, 10-6 KJCCC) came storming back to win the next two and force a fifth set for the second time this year between the two teams. Butler won the first match 3-2 at Hutchinson on Sept. 13.

The fifth set went to a 12-12 tie but Hutchinson closed it out with a 3-0 run.
