Grizzlies guaranteed share of KJCCC West title with 3-0 win over Hutchinson

The Butler volleyball team sealed at least a share of the Jayhawk West title Wednesday night in a 3-0 win over Hutchinson on the road.

Butler, who won their 25th consecutive match Wednesday night, is three games up in KJCCC play with three to go. They will have a chance to win the outright title, something never before done in program history, on Saturday afternoon in a matchup with Cloud.

"It is a pretty special thing for this team," said head coach Lisa Lechtenberg. "They have fought hard all season and now have made school history."

Butler defeated Hutchinson 25-17, 25-19 and 25-14 and trailed just a few times during the entire match. It wasn't their best offensive day as the team hit below .200 on the night but the Grizzlies were good in other aspects and stayed consistent in their play and effort to close out the Blue Dragons in straight sets.

Ivy Fink had a big night offensively finishing with 12 kills hitting .353 on the night and had a team high four serving aces. Carly Clennan, Vanja Przulj and Rainey Aven each had five kills in the match. Caitlyn Rexroat led with 14 digs while Jaryn Benning had a team high four blocks in the match.

As a team, Butler served eight total aces in the match. Fink led with four while Vanja Przulj had a season high three during the match.

The Grizzlies are now 29-2 overall and 13-0 in KJCCC play. They have three games remaining in the regular season starting out with Cloud County at home on Saturday, October 23 at 2:00pm. This is the Grizzlies final home match of the regular season, and the team will be recognizing all the sophomore players prior to the match.
