EL DORADO, Kan. – The new NJCAA polls have been released and Butler football and soccer found themselves nationally ranked while Butler cross country's men's and women's teams were ranked in the USTFCCCA Preseason Coaches' Poll.
Football
The Grizzlies (1-1, 1-1) stayed put as they were ranked 12th in the week three NJCAA D1 football poll. This ranking comes after Butler had an off week last week. The Grizzlies have been ranked in 18 straight polls with the last time they were unranked being the 2022 preseason poll. Butler is the second-highest ranked KJCCC team behind only top ranked Hutchinson (3-0, 0-0). Garden City (1-2, 1-0) slotted in at No. 14 while Dodge City (2-1, 2-0) was receiving votes.
Butler has two future non KJCCC opponents that were ranked as Iowa Western (3-0) is No. 2 and Iowa Central (2-1) sits at No. 6.
The Grizzlies will take on Independence (2-1, 1-0) on Saturday at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex at 7 p.m. CT.
Soccer
Butler soccer dropped to No. 16 in the week three NJCAA D1 poll after sitting in ninth last week. Last week the Grizzlies went 0-1-1 after tying then 16th-ranked Hutchinson 1-1 in Hutchinson and falling to then 18th-ranked Cowley at home, 4-3.
Barton is the highest ranked KJCCC team at eighth. Hutchinson is now 11th and Cowley moved up to 14th. KCK is in 18th.
The Grizzlies will travel to Garden City on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. game before turning around and playing at Seward on Friday at 1 p.m.
Cross Country
Butler women's cross country was ranked sixth in the USTFCCA NJCAA Division 1 Women's Cross Country National Preseason Coaches' Poll while the men found themselves ranked 12th in the men's poll. The women are the second-highest ranked KJCCC squad behinf fifth-ranked Hutchinson. The men are the highest ranked KJCCC squad with Cloud County (17th) and Garden City (18th) trailing the Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies opened their season at the Terry Masterson Twilight Classic where the men placed fifth in the race, the second highest community college team behind Garden City who was just ahead in fourth. The women placed third overall in the women's three-mile race and were the highest placing community college program on the evening.
