Todd Carter begins his 35th year at Butler Community College and 18th as Director of Athletics. As athletics director, Carter provides leadership and support for the Grizzlies 13 varsity intercollegiate sports as well as the department’s more than 40 full-time and part-time administrative and coaching staff members.

Carter is instrumental in the implementation of a strategic plan for the athletic department ; providing oversight of compliance with NJCAA and KJCCC rules and work in conjunction with KJCCC office in support of conference and Region 6 activities and initiatives; develop and advance marketing, sponsorships and fundraising in support of athletics programs and the department; and develop and nurture relationships within the community in support of the athletic and foundation departments.

Since taking over as Director of Athletics in 2003, Butler has enjoyed unprecedented success in Athletics, highlighted by national football championships in '03, '07 and '08; Men and Women Half-Marathon National Championships in '04; and, the softball team winning back-to-back National Titles in '16 & '17.

The athletic department also finished 3rd in the 2008 National Alliance of Two Year College Athletic Administrator’s Cup for the best overall athletic program nationally. Butler was eighth nationally in 2017, 21st in 2018 and 28th in 2019.

Carter has also spearheaded fund-raising effort for major renovations of the Hubbard Champions Training Center, the Ramon and Betty Criss Football Complex, the Dr. Larry and Judy Abraham Men’s Basketball Locker Room, Butler Soccer’s new press box and team dugouts, BG Products Veterans Sports Complex and women’s basketball locker room and the athletic training room.

From 1987 to 2003, Carter was the Head Athletic Trainer for Butler Community College. He spent the summer of 1987 working with the Kansas City Chiefs at their training camp and the summer of 1992 with the Dallas Cowboys. In 1993, Carter began his 4 year journey with the USA Olympics. He worked the 93 summer in Colorado Springs at the US Olympic Training Center and summer of 94 in St. Louis at the US Olympic Festival National baseball trials. During the summers of 95 & 96, he was the athletic trainer for Team USA baseball who captured the bronze medal at the Atlanta Olympic games.

A native of Rapid City, S.D, Carter received his undergraduate degree from South Dakota State University and his graduate degree from Indiana State University. He and his wife Denise have three children- Callie, Camden and Carly.
