Lady Tiger soccer suffers first defeat at hands of No. 7-ranked Butler

In a battle of ranked teams Saturday in Arkansas City, the No. 7-ranked Butler Community College Grizzlies out-lasted the 12th-ranked Cowley College women's soccer team 2-1. The victory by the Grizzlies avenged last year's lone conference defeat at the hands of the Lady Tigers.
Kenzee Godwin got the scoring started for Butler as she scored her eighth goal of the season 12 minutes into Saturday's contest. Cowley would answer back and tie the game at 1-1 thanks to the first goal of the season from sophomore Lina Fasquelle, who scored with 26:46 left in the opening half.
Unfortunately, seven minutes later, Butler would regain the lead when Emma Kolbe scored off an assist from Brooke Sullivan as the Lady Grizzlies went into halftime with the 2-1 lead.
The Lady Tigers had opportunities to tie the game over the final 45 minutes, but Butler goalkeeper Kyrah Klump would turn away each of those scoring chances.
"I thought we played well for the most part and were able to control possession throughout the game," Cowley head coach Roberto dos Santos said. "Unfortunately, we didn't take advantage of the gaps we created in their midfield, and Butler took advantage of our mistakes to finish two opportunities.
Freshman goalkeeper Kanon Dehama made six saves for the Lady Tigers as they fell to 3-1 overall and 0-1 in the conference. Butler, which has defeated five ranked opponents, is now 7-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
Cowley will face another ranked foe on Wednesday as they will take on Barton County at 3 p.m. in Great Bend, KS. The Cougars are 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the Jayhawk West.
"We will regroup and prepare for another big game against Barton," dos Santos said. "We will be better prepared as the team matures together."
