After running the fourth fastest 100 meter dash time in the world this year, Butler Track and Field Athlete Shawn Brown has been named KJCCC Track athlete of the week.

Shawn Brown, the Grizzlies sophomore sprinter from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, posted a 2023 nation best 10.04 official time in the men's 100-meter dash at the Friends University Spring Invite on Saturday. Brown's time of 10.04 is the fourth best time recorded anywhere in the world in the 2023 calendar year. His time passes Zhenye Xie of China who recorded a 10.05 time in mid-March. This is the fastest time ran by any collegiate athlete and an American so far in 2023. Brown's time also puts him in second place for all-time Butler Grizzly 100 meter dash times. He is right behind Jerod Elock ran a time of 10.03 on May 21st of 2022. Elock and Brown hold first and second place titles of the KJCCC and Region VI conference. Brown's time also puts him in sixth place all-time for the NJCAA.

Brown was also a member of the first place finishing 4x100 meter team at the Friends University Spring Invite on Saturday.

Shawn Brown is the first Butler athlete to be recognized as KJCCC Track Athlete of the week in the 2023 Outdoor Season.
