Grizzlies See Success at Cowley’s Mark Phillips Invite

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. – Butler track and field made the short trip to Cowley's Mark A. Phillips Track and Field Complex on Saturday for the Mark Phillips Invite.

Several Grizzly student-athletes came away with first place finishes at the meet as well as a handful of personal records.

Men's Results

Jonathan Farinha had a big meet on the men's side, winning the 200m (20.95, personal record) and helping the men's 4x100m relay (Vu, Morrison, King, Farinha) to a first-place finish as the anchor (40.00). The time for the relay is the second-best time in the NJCAA outdoor this season. Farinha also placed second in the men's 100m (10.40).

Abdelhakim Boukhiar won the meet in the men's 800m, running 1:53.37. Soualah Yasser placed third (1:54.69) and Marte Hailey came in fourth (1:57.46, personal record).

Nasia Lee had a second-place finish in the 110 hurdles (14.70).

In the high jump, William McKinney came in second, clearing 2.07m for a personal record jump that places him fourth in the NJCAA. Braylon Buchanan was right behind in fourth for a personal record jump of 2.02m.

In the 400m, Michael Thomas was the highest Grizzly finisher, coming in third with a personal record run of 48.32. Avindale Smith came in fourth with a personal record run of 48.59.

Women's Results

Keniya Dexter won the 800m, running 2:21.62. Trishanie Warner came in second, running 2:23.69. Khloi Bird was in fourth (2:24.12)

Heidi Grimmett won the 3000m steeplechase (12:04.17) and Valyrie Freeman placed third (13:17.49).

Kayveonna Jackson was the highest grizzly finisher in the 100m, placing eighth (12.33).

The 4x100m relay (Sinclair, Brooks, Cooper, Jackson) came in second, running 47.19 for the fourth best 4x100 relay time in all of NJCAA this season.
