Butler track and field sprinter Jonathan Farinha was named the KJCCC outdoor track athlete of the week, the league announced Tuesday.
Farinha, a sophomore from Trinidad and Tobago, impressed at Cowley's Mark Phillips Invite this past weekend.
He won the 200m (20.95) which was a personal record as well as the fifth best time in the NJCAA this season. The run qualified him for NJCAA Outdoor Nationals which will be held May 16-18 at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
Farinha was also the anchor for the 4x100m relay (Vu, Morrison, King, Farinha) which placed first with a time of 40.00. The time ranks as the second best in the NJCAA this season and was another qualifier.
Finally, Farinha placed second in the men's 100m with a time of 10.40, sixth best in the NJCAA.
Butler is back on the track this Thursday, competing at the Emporia State Relays.
