Men’s Track and Field Tallies Top Marks at Gorilla Classic

Nxgabazi, Campbell, Pavia, Otim, Ramatsebe Post Qualifying Times

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Butler men's track and field wrapped up its final regular season meet of the indoor season on Friday and Saturday as part of the 10th Annual Russ Jewett Indoor Gorilla Classic at the Robert W. Plaster Center on the campus of Pittsburg State.

The Grizzlies now turn their attention to the Indoor Region 6 Championships which will also be held at the Plaster Center in Pittsburg on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 22nd and 23rd.

Itumeleng Nxgabazi ran 14:39.44 in the 5000m to qualify for NJCAA Nationals. Ngxabazi has also qualified in the 800m, 1000m, mile and the 3000m.

Ainsley Campbell topped his previous national qualifying time in the 800m running 1:53.53 placing first. Ishmael Acheampong placed first in the event with a time of 1:52.57.

Cesar Pavia ran 1:55.63 in the 800m to snatch his first national qualifying mark of the season. He placed 13th at the meet.

Emmanuel Otim finished fourth in the men's mile (4:09.69) which is the best mile mark for a Grizzly this indoor season, qualifying for nationals.

Kamohelo Ramatsebe finished sixth in the 3000m (8:21.91), a qualifying mark.

Bhekizulu Khumalo missed qualifying in the 5000m by .03 seconds running 14:53.41 for an eighth-place finish. The men's distance medley relay had the school record and a national qualifying mark but was disqualified for stepping over the line.
