Men’s Track and Field Finishes 3rd at Region 6 Indoor Championships
Acheampong Named Region 6 Men's High Point Athlete of the Meet, 8 Grizzlies post national qualifying marks
PITTSBURG, Kan. – Butler men's track and field had an impressive team performance at the 2025 Region 6 Championships on Saturday and Sunday in Pittsburg at the Robert W. Plaster Center.
The Grizzly men placed 3rd out of 16 teams in the Region and second out of eight in the KJCCC East. The Hutchinson men won the Region and Coffeyville won the KJCCC West.
Grizzly sophomore mid-distance runner Ishmael Acheampong was named the Region 6 Men's High Point Athlete of the Meet for his performance by scoring 22 points across three events. The sophomore won the 800 meters with a time of 1:55.01 while placing third in the 600 meters (1:19.59) and the 1000 meters (2:32.68) with the times in the 600 meters and 800 meters serving as national qualifying marks. Acheampong helped lead Butler to a third-place Region 6 finish and a KJCCC East Division runner-up finish.
The Grizzlies Distance Medley Relay team of Bhekizulu Khumalo, Jermaine Thompson, Isaiah Smith, Emmanuel Otim won the Region 6 title with a time of 10:07.77. Otim was the Region champion in the men's mile running 4:08.16. The Butler men posted eight national qualifying marks.

Butler track and field now turns its attention to the Indoor NJCAA Championships hosted in Lubbock, Texas, at the Texas Tech indoor facility on March 7th and 8th.
