Acheampong Named KJCCC Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
Sophomore from Ghana Was Also Named 2025 NJCAA Region 6 Men's High Point Athlete of the Meet
Butler Community College men's track and field mid-distance runner Ishmael Acheampong was named the KJCCC Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, the league announced.
Acheampong, a sophomore from Kumasi, Ghana, earned the weekly award following his stellar performance at the Region 6 Championships in Pittsburg over the weekend.
Acheampong was named the 2025 NJCAA Region 6 Men's High Point Athlete of the Meet for his performance by scoring 22 points across three events. The sophomore won the 800 meters with a time of 1:55.01 while placing third in the 600 meters (1:19.59) and the 1000 meters (2:32.68) with the times in the 600 meters and 800 meters serving as national qualifying marks. Acheampong helped lead Butler to a third-place Region 6 finish and a KJCCC East Division runner-up finish.
The Grizzlies next action comes on March 7th and 8th as they travel to the Indoor NJCAA Championships at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. Acheampong is set to compete in the 800m and the 4x800m relay.
