Grizzly Men Place 11th at NJCAA Indoor Championships, Break 3 School Records
School Records Fall for Butler at Texas Tech's Sports Performance Center
LUBBOCK, Texas – Butler track and field has officially wrapped up the 2025 indoor season.
The Grizzly men placed 11th out of 34 point scoring teams at the 2025 NJCAA Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Texas Tech University Sports Performance Center. The Grizzly women did not score in the meet.

South Plains was the men's champion with New Mexico JC in second and Iowa Western in third. The highest finishing Jayhawk Conference school on the men's side was Barton in seventh. On the women's side Iowa Western won the indoor title followed by Barton and New Mexico JC.
Prior to the meet, Grizzly sophomore Ishmael Acheampong was named the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's NJCAA Central Region Men's Track Athlete of the Year.
Several indoor school records were set in the meet. Acheampong broke a school record in the 800m taking bronze with a time of 1:50.72. Ainsley Campbell followed placing 6th (1:51.67) with both turning in All-American finishes.
Emmanuel Otim took bronze in the men's mile running 4:08.54 for a Grizzly indoor school record. Itumeleng Ngxabazi finished 10th (4:11.72) and Kamohelo Ramatsebe 15th (4:14.91) in the mile behind Otim.
The men's 4x800m relay broke a school record running 7:33.95 and finished in second place, (Otim, Campbell, Acheampong, Cesar Pavia). They were just .90 behind first place Iowa Central.
Otim (8th, 8:23.62), Ramatsebe (16th, 8:35.12) and Bhekizulu Khumalo (17th, 8:35.70) all placed in the 3000m with Otim's finish earning him All-American status.
Ngxabazi finished 13th in the 5000m running it in 15:27.20.
The men's distance medley relay finished ninth with a time of 10:11.00 (Khumalo, Amos Oruamabo, Pavia, Acheampong).
Clifford Joyce III competed in the long jump, reaching a mark of 6.61m, the 20th best mark.
On the women's side, Elizabeth Hernandez placed 20th in the 3000m running 10:36.61. Hernandez and Alison Unruh competed in the 5000m with Hernandez placing 14th (18:23.18) and Unruh 24th (19:31.82).
The Grizzlies now turn their attention to the outdoor season which begins March 22nd at the Bethel Invite.
