Track and Field Wraps Up Texas Trip
Butler Track & Field Competes Against Top Competition in Texas
AUSTIN, Texas – The Butler Community College track and field team spent the weekend competing at the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos, Texas, and the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas.
Several Grizzlies posted impressive marks against top flight competition, in some cases against NCAA Division 1 competition.
Emmanuel Otim (3:49.82) and Itumeleng Ngxabazi (3:49.96) finished first and second in the 1500m B Section at the Texas Relays.
Kamohelo Ramatsebe placed 12th and qualified for NJCAA Outdoor Nationals in the Men's 3000m Steeplechase at the Texas Relays with a time of 9:25.01.
Elizabeth Hernandez ran a personal record and national qualifying time of 4:53.01 in the 1500m at the Bobcat Invitational.
Ngxabazi won the 1500m at the Bobcat Invitational setting a meet record and personal record with a time of 3:48.29. Ramatsebe also posted a national qualifying time of 3:53.89 finishing 11th.
The Grizzly men's 4x800 (Otim, Ainsley Campbell, Cesar Pavia, Ishmael Acheampong) ran 7:30.43 and placed fourth at the Texas Relays finishing ahead of NCAA D1 schools such as UCSD, TCU, TAMUCC.
Jermaine Thompson ran 10.48 in the 100m at the Bobcat Invitational which was a personal best as well as an NJCAA Outdoor qualifying time.
Butler returns to the track on April 2nd in Wichita when they travel to Friends University for the Friends Spring Open.
