Butler Cross Country teams both ranked inside Top 10 in the nation in week two poll
For the first time since the 2017 season, both the women's and men's Cross Country teams are ranked inside the Top 10 in the national rankings published by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
After neither team being ranked after week one, both made a huge jump into the polls with the men coming in 4th while the women sit in 9th place this week in the national poll of NJCAA Division I Cross Country teams.
"It is an honor to be recognized in the top 10 in the nation", commented head coach Dustin Mettler. "Both teams have been working hard and it is really starting to show."
The teams have had a hot start to the season with both teams posting top 10 team finishes in both events.
The men won their home meet two weeks ago and took third last Saturday at the Muthama-Rogers Invitational hosted by Bethel College that saw 14 teams competing. The women's team had a third-place finish in the first meet of the season and a sixth-place finish last weekend.
Obadia Tanui has led the Grizzlies with a fourth and third place finish in his two meets this season. Zadie St. Louis has been the front runner on the women's side with a third place and 10th place finish in both events this season.
"We need to outwork what we did yesterday," said Mettler. "That is how we are going to continue to improve and stay up in the rankings. Every day we need to work harder than the day before and stay determined."
