Men win Muthama-Rogers Invitational; women finish runner-up

It was a successful Saturday for the Butler cross country teams as the men brought home first place while the women finished runner-up at the Muthama-Rogers Invitational hosted by Bethel College in North Newton, KS.

"I'm proud of how both teams competed," said coach Mark Emerson. "They went out and competed for each other which was exciting to see. We are still early in our training cycle, so I am really looking forward to seeing how they continue to progress and ultimately be at their peak and ready to compete at the Regional and National meets. Saturday was a great day to be a Grizzly."

The Butler men finished with 38 points with four top-ten finishers. Results

Victor Jumo led the way claiming first place in the meet by nearly a minute running his 8K race in 26:09.41. Erick Chavez took third with a time of 27:06.84. Roger Korir and Valeur Muyoboke checked in at 8th and 9th place coming in at 30:05.65 and 30:13.07 in the race.

The women finished the meet with 52 points and four runners inside the top twelve. Results

Campbell Williams led the way on the women's side finishing sixth overall running a 22:58.86 5K race. Emily Hankins was directly behind her teammate finishing in seventh with a time of 23:00.68 Toby McClure took 11th place running a time of 25:15.55 and Leyni Gomez finished 12th running a 25:17.36.

The teams will have an off weekend this coming weekend in preparation for the Chili Pepper Invitational hosted in Fayetteville, AR on October 2nd.
