Men’s Squad claim Region VI Runner-Up Spot, Women 5th at Region VI Cross Country Championships

IOLA, Kan. – Butler men's and women's cross country competed at the Region VI Cross Country Championships on Friday at the Allen CC Cross Country Course as the men's squad finished second as the region runners-up and the women placed fifth.

Two Grizzly men earned all-region recognition with Adem Bouldjadj (second place, 24:05.209) and Soualah Yasser (11th, 26:05.729) picking up the honors. On the women's side Khloi Bird was named all-region for her ninth place finish (19:06.8).

The men's squad came in third in the men's 8k behind Colby (1st) and Cowley (2nd) but due to Cowley being D2, the Grizzlies were the runners up. Bouldjadj came in second, Yasser is 11th, Devon Simmons in 18th (26:24.55), Abdelhakim Boukhiar in 28th (26:58.74), Kevin Swindell in 39th (27:13.4), Isaiah Smith in 51st (28:18.06) and Branen Moore in 65th (29:04.9).

The women's squad came in sixth in the women's 5k behind (in order) Colby, Hutchinson, Cowley, Dodge City and Cloud County but due to Cowley being D2 the women came in fifth. Bird came in ninth, Heidi Grimmett came in 19th (19:59.43), Alison Unruh in 29th (20:33.1), Valyrie Freeman came in 30th (20:34.0), Jesica Mbhamali came in 33rd (20:44.7), Josie Ware finished 38th (20:58.5), Madison Butler was in 53rd (22:57.5) and Emma Curley finished in 69th (27:43.5).

Next up for Butler cross country is the NJCAA National Championships on Nov. 11th.
