Butler Handles Business With Doubleheader Sweep of NWKTC

EL DORADO, Kan. – Following a split with Barton on Thursday, No. 14 Butler softball returned to East Park and dominated the Northwest Kansas Technical Mavericks, sweeping the doubleheader.

Butler (13-3, 5-1 KJCCC) outscored NWKTC (0-14, 0-6) 37-2 in the 10 innings played.

The Grizzlies next play at Pratt on Wednesday with a doubleheader set for 2/4 p.m. from Angood Field at Lemon Park.

Game 1: Butler 20, NWKTC 0

Butler scored three or more runs in all four innings they came to the plate. They scored 10 runs in the third inning, taking a 17-0 lead and blowing the game wide open. Mallory Young hit a grand slam in the third, her second home run of the season.

Chloe Odle (W, 5-2) started in the circled and allowed one hit and no ruins in 3.0 innings of work. Alyssa Mude threw the final 2.0 allowing no runs or hits.

13 different Grizzlies recorded a hit in the game as they totaled 15 hits and 10 walks. They held the Mavericks to just one hit and two walks.

Madison Montgomery, Claire Lopez and Kaylah Newman each drove in two runs, second to Young's four runs driven in courtesy of the grand slam.

Game 2: Butler 17, NWKTC 2

A 15-run second inning was all the Grizzlies needed to grab a 17-2 game two victory and secure the sweep. Butler sent 19 batters to the plate in the second inning.

Kaylah Newman paced Butler with three hits. Aly Hageman, Madison Montgomery and Caylee Mann each had two hits. Montgomery homered twice, both in the second inning as she hit a three-run home run and a grand slam, driving in a season-high eight runs in the game.

The Grizzlies were walked 13 times and had 12 hits.

Cheyenne Handsaker got the start and threw 3.0 shutout innings allowing a lone hit, striking out five and walking none.

Lauryn Reyes led the Mavericks with two hits and two RBI.
