Complete Effort Leads Grizzlies to Sweep of Dodge City

EL DORADO, Kan. – Butler softball put together another conference doubleheader sweep on Wednesday, dispatching the Dodge City Conquistadors at East Park.

Butler (18-4, 9-1 KJCCC) moves to 9-1 in league play with two more home doubleheaders up next. They host Cowley on Saturday in non-conference action and then turn around and welcome Hutchinson to East Park on Monday. Dodge City moved to 3-17 overall, 3-7 in conference play.

Game 1: Butler 10, Dodge City 1 (5 inn.)

The Grizzlies took down the Conqs 10-1 behind a one hit performance from the Grizzly pitching staff.

Cheyenne Handsaker (W, 7-1) threw 4.0 innings allowing one unearned run on one hit, striking out one. Alyssa Mude closed the game out in the fifth inning allowing no hits, striking out two and walking two.

The Grizzlies put together 10 hits with a six spot in the second to build a 9-1 advantage.

Kyrsten Moran had two hits, two RBI and scored two runs. Chloe Cardona drove in three runs on two hits and Cady Dickey hit her eighth home run in the bottom of the seventh, a solo shot.

Game 2: Butler 8, Dodge City 0 (5 inn.)

Butler blanked Dodge City in game two, allowing just two hits in an 8-0 run rule win.

Chloe Odle (W, 7-3) threw 5.0 shutout innings allowing just two hits with no walks or strikeouts.

Cady Dickey hit her ninth home run of the season in the bottom of the first, a solo home run to left center to make it a 2-0 Grizzly lead.

Madison Montgomery led Butler offensively with two hits and two runs driven in. She hit a two-run home run in the fourth, giving Butler the 8-0 lead with her sixth long ball of the season.

Kaylah Newman drove two runs in on a double to right center in the third.
