Butler Softball Dispatches NWKTC

GOODLAND, Kan. – Butler softball dispatched the Northwest Kansas Tech Mavericks, winning both games of the doubleheader at the NW Tech Softball Complex on Saturday afternoon.

The No. 17 Grizzlies took care of the Mavericks winning 28-3 in game one and 6-1 in game two.

Butler will now return to East Park for its next games, hosting Pratt on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in a KJCCC doubleheader.

Game 1: Butler 28, NWKTC 3 (5 inn.)

Butler plated four or more runs in four of five innings including a 10-spot in the fourth to win 28-3. The 28 runs scored was a season-high for the Grizzlies.

13 different Grizzlies finished with a hit with Madison Montgomery leading the way with three hits. Mallory Young drove in five runs while pitcher Lena Walter drove in four including a three-run home run.

Alyssa Mude (W, 1-0) earned her first win of the season throwing a complete game allowing just one earned run and striking out seven.

Game 2: Butler 6, NWKTC 1 (5 inn.)

Weather stopped game two short in its tracks as heavy rain and wind affected play and the game was called final after the fifth inning.

The Grizzlies used five runs in the fourth inning to get the win. Caylee Mann cleared the bases on a single to left field for three RBI in the frame. Mann, Kim Yepez, Mallory Young and Madison Nightingale recorded the only four hits for Butler.

Addy Ewing (W, 8-0) threw all 5.0 innings for a complete game win allowing one run and striking out six.
