With the 2024 KJCCC/Region VI season coming to a close on Monday, the 2024 All-KJCCC awards were announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Butler saw nine student-athletes pick up recognition with four first-team honorees, three second-team members and two honorable mention selections.
FIRST TEAM
Freshman Claire Lopez picked up first team honors for Butler as she led the conference with a .522 batting average in 43 games started at second base. Her 72 hits led Butler and were fifth most in the Jayhawk. The Olathe native scored 60 runs, held an on-base percentage of .596 and stole 35 bases, third most in the league. Lopez finished with 25 multi-hit games.
Fellow freshman Kyrsten Moran was named to the first team as an outfielder as she started 48 games in center field for the Grizzlies. Moran, a Little Elm, Texas, native, led the league with 50 stolen bases this season. She hit .384 and tallied 63 hits, a team-high 65 runs scored and a .482 on-base percentage. Moran showed great range in center field and had just two errors compared to 56 putouts.
Sophomore shortstop Aly Hageman was named to the first team after being an honorable mention selection as a freshman. The Kingman, Kan., native hit .411 with a team-high 12 home runs, team-high tying 14 doubles and team-high six triples. Hageman slugged .804, drove in 50 runs and held an on-base percentage of .530. She was 23-24 on the base paths. She started 55 games, had 20 multi-hit games and turned in some highlight reel plays from her shortstop position.
Sophomore pitcher Cheyenne Handsaker was a first team selection. The Pearl City, Il, native was the workhorse of the Grizzly pitching staff throwing a team-high 144.0 innings after throwing just 2.2 innings in her freshman campaign. She held a 2.48 ERA to go with a 19-5 record, throwing 12 complete games. Handsaker struck out 150 compared to 41 walks and was named KJCCC Pitcher of the Week on five separate occasions.
SECOND TEAM
Butler left fielder Kory Schoenfeld was named to the KJCCC second team. The freshman from Wichita started 53 games in left field for Butler, displaying tremendous defensive abilities with numerous diving catches including one that landed No. 3 on SportsCenter's Top-10 plays. Schoenfeld had just three errors on 61 putouts, the most for any Butler outfielder. She hit .336 with 48 hits, 37 runs scored and 26 walks with a .438 on-base percentage. Schoenfeld also stole 31 bases, fourth most in the league.
Sophomore catcher Cady Dickey was named to the second team after being named a first team selection her freshman campaign. Dickey hit .453 and drove in a team-high 60 RBI. The Arkansas City, Kan., native had 62 hits, 11 home runs and seven doubles, holding a .539 on-base percentage. She started 39 games at catcher and six as the designated player.
Rounding out the second team honorees was freshman pitcher Chloe Odle. Odle threw the second-most innings on the team with 94.0, making 22 starts and holding a 15-4 record. The Beloit native held a 3.05 ERA with 88 strikeouts and seven complete games thrown.
HONORABLE MENTION
For a second consecutive season, sophomore JaKeyla McDaniel was named an honorable mention All-KJCCC selection. McDaniel hit .364 with 55 hits and 37 runs scored, driving in 21 runs. She stole 24 bases and held an on-base percentage of .411. The Port Neches, Texas, native, started 54 games spending time in both left and right field.
Freshman Chloe Cardona was named an honorable mention All-KJCCC selection in her first season as. Grizzly. Cardona was a true utility player for Butler starting games at catcher, third base and as the designated player. She hit .338 with 49 hits, 42 runs scored and 47 RBI, third most on the team. The Fort Worth, Texas, native held a .409 on-base percentage, stole 17 bases and had 14 multi-hit games.
