Softball Picked to Finish 1st in Jayhawk Ahead of 2025 Season

EL DORADO, Kan. – Butler softball was picked to win the 2025 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference title as voted by the leagues coaches.

The Grizzlies have won 14 of the last 17 KJCCC regular season titles including last season when they finished 47-10 and 30-2 in KJCCC play winning the regular season title and earning the No. 1 seed at the Region 6 Tournament. It marked the program's 18th conference title.

Butler split eight first place votes with Hutchinson, edging out the 2024 Region 6 Champion Blue Dragons in points, 76-71. Following the Grizzlies and Blue Dragons was Barton in third, Colby in fourth, Dodge City in fifth, Seward in sixth, Garden City in seventh, Pratt in eighth and Fort Hays Tech Northwest in ninth.

Head coach Morgan Bohanan returns to coach her third season in charge of the Grizzlies. Butler returns 12 student-athletes from the 2024 squad including NJCAA All-American Claire Lopez. Five of the returners garnered All-KJCCC honors a season ago in Lopez (1st Team Infielder), Kyrsten Moran (1st Team Outfielder), Kory Schoenfeld (2nd Team Outfielder), Chloe Odle (2nd Team RHP) and Chloe Cardona (Honorable Mention Infielder).

Butler's season kicks off on Saturday, Feb. 8th, in La Junta, Colo. The Grizzlies open with a doubleheader vs. Otero College and the next day take on Trinidad State College in a doubleheader at Otero's Tippy Martinez Softball Field. The home opener for the Grizzlies is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 24th, as Crowder College visits East Park for a doubleheader. Wednesday, Feb. 26th, marks the Jayhawk Conference opener for Butler with Fort Hays Tech Northwest making the trip to El Dorado
