LIBERAL, Kan. – The 14th ranked Butler softball team competed on the road for a second straight doubleheader, sweeping the Seward Saints on Sunday afternoon at French Family Field.
The Grizzlies (9-1, 3-1) won 10-1 in game one before an 11-6 victory over the Saints (7-13, 3-5) in game two to close out the day.
Chloe Odle (W, 3-0) threw 6.0 innings striking out 12, walking one and allowing a lone run to lead Butler to the game one win. Addy Ewing pitched the seventh inning to close things out not allowing a hit or run with a strikeout. Butler outhit Seward 8-3 and used five Saint errors in the game. Seward struck first in the third inning on an RBI single to make it 1-0. Butler got on the board in the fifth inning with a six spot to go ahead 6-1 before adding two runs each in the sixth and seventh innings.
Errors plagued the Saints again in game two as they finished with seven errors. Butler cashed in on them with 11 runs on 14 hits to cruise to the 11-6 win. The Grizzlies used three pitchers with Ellie Randall (W, 3-0) getting the win throwing 4.0 innings allowing one run on two hits, striking out a season-high seven and walking one. Ewing pitched the final two thirds of an inning not allowing a hit or run.
