ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. – 17th ranked Butler softball traveled to Ed Hargrove Field on Monday afternoon and came away with a doubleheader sweep of the Cowley Tigers in non-conference play.
Butler (23-5) snuck by in game one winning 3-2 before the offense came to life in game two as they defeated the Tigers (22-10) 13-6.
The Grizzlies defeated the Tigers in Butler's final non-conference games of the season as they hit the final stretch of Jayhawk Conference play.
Chloe Odle (W, 8-2) tossed 6.0 innings of two run softball and Addy Ewing (Save, 2) pitched the seventh in relief without allowing a hit or run as Butler snuck by Cowley 3-2 in game one. Karson Holson and Jenna Jobe each hit solo home runs in the game with Kyrsten Moran driving in the third run. The Grizzlies plated runs in the second and third to lead 2-0 before Cowley got on the board in the bottom of the fourth to cut into the Grizzly lead making it 2-1. Each team plated a run in the sixth and were scoreless in the seventh. Cowley's Mikah Vann threw all 7.0 innings allowing three runs, striking out three and walking none.
The middle innings were where Butler's offense shined in game two as they scored four runs in the second, five runs in the third and three in the fourth, taking a 12-1 lead into the fifth. Cowley cut it to 12-6 with five fifth inning runs but Butler held them off the board the rest of the way. Five Grizzlies had multi-hit games with Kyler Demel finishing 3-4 with five RBI. Ellie Randall (W, 9-1) earned her ninth win throwing 4.0 innings allowing no earned runs and striking out three. Ewing threw the final 2.2 innings allowing no runs or hits.
