Butler Soccer Drills Seward at Home for 2nd Straight Win

EL DORADO, Kan. – The Grizzly soccer team came out firing at home on Wednesday afternoon, taking down the Seward County Saints, 5-1, at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex.

Butler (8-5-5, 7-5-3 KJCCC) scored five goals for a second straight game, scoring three goals in the first half and two in the second while holding the Saints (1-11-3, 1-11-2 KJCCC) to just one goal in the first half.

Five different Grizzlies got in on the scoring action with Kaitlin Erwin leading the charge, scoring one of her own and assisting on two others

Freshman Rylie Schiffelbein played all 90 minutes in goal, finishing with just the one goal allowed and no saves as the ball was on Butler's end for most of the game.

Giselle Nash scored for a second straight game, this time off a double assist from Erwin and Saki Matsumoto who placed the ball perfectly in the box for Erwin to tap over to Nash who finished it and made it 1-0.

Emma Kolbe scored off a free kick from straight on just outside the box to put the Grizzlies ahead 2-0 in the 21st minute.

Ruby Kilden netted her fourth goal of the season to make it 3-0 in the 31st minute as a dribbler came her way in the middle of a scrum in the box and she tapped it in.

Seward's Natoya Atkinson scored an impressive goal from dep in the 33rd minute to put the Saints on the board, 3-1.

Jessica Peterson scored her first career goal in the second half, unassisted to make it 4-1. Kaitlin Erwin scored the game's final goal to put the Grizzlies ahead 5-1.

Butler outshot Seward 22-4 and had nine corner kicks to the Saints one.

The final game of the regular season comes on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT as Butler hosts Dodge City. The game will also serve as sophomore day.
