DODGE CITY, Kan. – No. 6 ranked Butler soccer used two second half goals to secure a road win over the Dodge City Conquistadors at Memorial Stadium Saturday afternoon.
The sixth ranked Grizzlies (7-0-2, 7-0-1 KJCCC) picked up their fifth straight win and remain atop the Jayhawk Division 1 standings halfway through the conference slate. Butler snapped Dodge City's (3-4-1, 3-3-1) three-game win streak.
Butler outshot the Conqs 10-3 in the first half but were unable to get on the board as Dodge City keeper Ana Ramirez-Cortes tallies six saves in the first 45 minutes.
The second half saw the Grizzlies able to convert immediately as sophomore Sakiko Manabe netted a goal in the 45th minute off a corner kick that curved right over the Conq goalie to make it 1-0. It was Manabe's second goal of the season.
Freshman London Ingram extended her goals scored streak to five straight games as she netted a goal in the 71st minute to give Butler a two-score cushion. Saki Matsumoto sent the ball across the field from the left wing over to Ingram who was waiting in front of goal and headed it in to the left of the waiting Conq goalie.
Sophomore Rylie Schiffelbein was in goal the entire game for Butler, finishing with three saves.
Butler outshot Dodge City 18-10 in the game. Dodge City was called for two yellow cards.
Butler returns to action on Wednesday in a non-conference bout with Hill College in El Dorado at 7 p.m. The Rebels are currently ranked No. 8, two spots behind the Grizzlies.
