First Half Lead Holds for No. 6 Butler at Barton

GREAT BEND, Kan. – No. 6 ranked Butler soccer used two first half goals to escape with a 2-1 win over Barton at the Cougar Soccer Complex on Wednesday afternoon.

Butler (9-0-3, 9-0-1 KJCCC) earned its seventh consecutive conference win on Wednesday, with the last non-win result coming Sept. 4th on the road at No. 12 KCKCC in a 1-1 tie. Butler is through 12 games this season without a loss, the longest into a season they have been without a loss since 2005 when the Amy Estes led Grizzlies opened the season on a 15-game win streak and tied with Navarro in the 16th game.

Grizzly sophomore Ruby Kilden opened the scoring at the 9:56 mark with a kick from distance that snuck under the crossbar to make it 1-0. It was Kilden's second goal this season.

Freshman London Ingram, the Grizzlies leading scorer with 11 goals on the season, scored the game winning goal in the 24th minute. Ingram followed her own shot after the Cougar goalie rejected the initial one and put the Grizzlies up 2-0.

Butler gave away the wind advantage in the second half and saw Barton take advantage of the wind at their backs, the Cougars scored at the 78 minute mark to make it 2-1 as Leticia Quadros got them on the board with a deep free kick.

The Grizzlies narrowly outshot Barton, 20-17. Sophomore Rylie Schiffelbein played all 90 minutes in goal, finishing with six saves allowing the line goal. Barton's Mio Tanaka finished with 13 saves and the two goals allowes.

Butler hosts No. 9 KCKCC in a top-10 matchup in El Dorado on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
