Hunter Honored With NJCAA Coaches Legacy Award
Adam Hunter Named One of the All-Time Winningest Coaches in NJCAA History
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Butler Community College soccer head coach Adam Hunter has been honored by the National Junior College Athletic Association, being named as a recipient for the first ever Coaches Legacy Awards.
The NJCAA Coaches Legacy Awards, presented by Nufabrx, recognizes the all-time winningest coaches in NJCAA history. This is the first time in the near 90-year history of the NJCAA that coaches have been recognized in such a fashion by the Association.
Hunter was one of four women's soccer coaches to be recognized with the barrier of entry being 300 career wins at the NJCAA level. He was joined by William Rich of SUNY Broome, Corey Rose of Tyler Junior College and Jim Schwab of Johnson County Community College.
Hunter (332-119-25) picked up his 300th career win during the 2022 season. He is entering his 19th season leading the Grizzlies in 2025 with a 293-87-22 record at Butler. Hunter has guided the Grizzlies to 10 conference championships in 18 seasons as well as 10 appearances in the NJCAA Championships with final four appearances in 2013 and 2015. The program has experienced five 20+ win seasons and have been ranked No. 1 in the nation by the United Soccer Caches twice under Hunter's tutelage. Hunter has been named the KJCCC Coach of the Year seven times. His head coaching career kicked off in 2001 when a four-year stint at Dodge City Community College commenced.
Most recently, Hunter and the Grizzlies finished 13-3-4 in 2024 with a 12-2-2 mark in conference play that saw them earn a share of the conference title before the season ended in the Region 6 Tournament Semifinals.
All honorees will be recognized at a special luncheon on Tuesday, June 17, in Charlotte, North Carolina, at the Hilton Charlotte University Place Hotel. The luncheon will precede the 2025 NJCAA Hall of Fame and Awards event, scheduled for later that day.
