Women’s Track and Field Places 6th at Region VI Indoor Championships

PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Butler women's track and field team competed at the Region VI Indoor Championships on Saturday and Sunday, hosted at Pittsburg State's Robert W. Plaster Center.

The Grizzly women placed sixth in the region out of 13 total teams. They finished one spot ahead of Hutchinson. Cloud County won the region, Barton finished second and Fort Scott came in third.

Two Grizzly relays won their event. The 4x800m relay consisting of Star Mpama, Khloi Bird, Keniya Dexter and Trishanie Warner placed first with a time of 9:58.21 which qualified them for the NJCAA National Championships.

The 4x400m relay made up of Mpama, Ala'Jah Brooks, Deslyne Cooper and Warner came in first with a time of (3:50.17) that also qualified them for the NJCAA Nationals.

The distance medley relay (Heidi Grimmett, Warner, Mpama and Bird) came in second behind Colby, running 12:29.76.

Mpama had a strong day overall as she was a part of both winning relay squads. She also came in second in the 600m (1:36.28) and third in the 800m (2:20.64).

Bird finished second in the 5000m (18:35.25).

Warner came in third in the 400m (57.23) just two seconds behind first and second place.

Dexter registered a fourth-place finish in the 800m (2:25.13) right behind Mpama.

Butler now has its sights set on the NJCAA Indoor National Championships to wrap up the indoor season, hosted by the University of Florida on March 1st and 2nd.
