Grizzlies See 6 Claim 1st Place Finishes, Multiple Top-10 NJCAA Finishes at Friends Spring Open

WICHITA, Kan. – Butler track and field competed at Friends University Spring Open over the weekend and came away with some impressive results.

Women's Results

Kayveonna Jackson won the 100m running 11.67 for a personal best as well as the sixth best time this season in the NJCAA. Her time tied the meet record which Butler alum and NJCAA All-American Shawnakay Peart set previously.

Trishanie Warner won the 400m, running 56.19. Ala'jah Brooks finished fourth (57.67) and Deslyne Cooper (1:00.09) came in sixth.

Star Mpama placed first in the 800m (2:18.86) with teammate Keniya Dexter following behind in third running 2:26.92.               

Khloi Bird came in fifth in the 1500m (5:04.79) and Valyrie Freeman came in fourth in the 3000m steeple (12:39.31)

Men's Results

Jonathan Farinha won the men's 100m, running 10.13 which is a personal best and 10th in the NJCAA. Two Grizzlies followed him in second and third with Eddy Vu (10.28) personal best and Devian King in third (10.37) personal best. Avindale Smith came in seventh (10.49), personal best.

Farinha won the 200m, running 20.59 for the third best time in the NJCAA. Andre Morrison placed third (21.17), and Mike Thomas fifth (21.66).

Abdelhakim Boukhiar won the 800m, running 1:54.75 and Yasser Soualah finished third (1:54.99).

The men's 4x100m relay took first ahead of Wichita State, Ottawa and Oklahoma Christian running 41.40. The relay was comprised of Vu, Morrison, King and Farinha.

Braylon Buchanan took 10th in the men's high jump clearing 1.83m.
